Steven is a Johnston County native, reared on a tobacco farm near Pine Level, N.C. His passion for architecture and building started at an early age. By age nine, his knack for sketching buildings and automobiles set the course for his career.
After attending Wake Tech and N.C. State, in 1979 he went to work as a draftsman under the guidance of Gerald Quick and Walter Davis at Quick Associates. There he gained a great deal of experience in site design and architectural design.
In 1981 he became a design draftsman for Bobbitt in the position that launched its in-house design staff for the area’s first “design-build” contractor. Yes, Steven is one of the original pioneers of the design-build method in the Triangle.
His role soon expanded beyond designing buildings to include estimating and project management, which ultimately led to his position as vice president of sales and marketing. Steven’s 29-years there resulted in more than 350 design-build projects totaling in excess of $150 million.
In 2011, Steven fulfilled his life-long dream by uniting with Jon Rufty to form Rufty-Peedin Commercial Design Builders. The partnership matches two distinguished Triangle leaders who hold mutual respect for the importance of service, honesty, integrity and the highest quality construction at a fair price.
